Motor Choices for the Nitro Powered RC Vehicle

Many radio controlled car and truck enthusiasts prefer the power, performance and blazing speed that only the nitro powered radio controlled vehicles can provide. Nitro powered radio controlled cars and trucks are typically much faster than their electric powered counterparts, and the are always a hit on the racing circuit.

There are of course a great many different nitro powered radio controlled cars and trucks on the market, ranging from racing and touring cars to the most rugged and durable monster trucks and buggies. Virtually every manufacturer of radio controlled vehicles makes at least a few models powered by nitro fuel, so it pays to shop around for the best model at the best price.

When choosing from the vast universe of nitro powered RC cars and trucks, the engine is of course one of the most vital considerations. It is after all the engine that will be responsible for giving these great vehicles their speed and their power.

The motors for nitro powered radio controlled cars and trucks come in two different varieties – two stroke and four stroke. The two stroke engine is by far the most popular, but a number of popular radio controlled vehicles use the four stroke engine design as well. The two stroke motor will use a fuel-oil mixture, just like a snow blower or chain saw, while the four stroke motor will have a separate oil reservoir just like a traditional car.

Another difference between motors when it comes to gas powered radio controlled cars and trucks is how those motors start. Some radio controlled vehicles will come equipped with a pull start, while others will not. While the vehicles without a pull start will generally be less expensive, it will be necessary to purchase a separate starter box. Even for those vehicles with a pull start, however, a starter box can come in handy. The starter box can eliminate the sometimes difficult pull starting process and make starting the RC car or truck a lot easier. No matter which type you choose, it is important to keep the engine well tuned up in order to keep it running its best.
