Your Guide to Gas Powered RC Cars

Gas powered RC cars are among the most exciting, most powerful, and above all fastest of all the cars in the radio controlled world. These cars are designed to run on a fuel that is often referred to as “nitro” or as “glow fuel”, and these nitro powered cars are able to bring a level of sophistication and performance that other RC cars and trucks simply cannot match. It is important to shop carefully for gas powered RC cars, and to shop around carefully.

The Engine
As with any type of RC car, the engine is an essential element, and one that will greatly affect the performance you are able to achieve. There are a variety of different model engines available for nitro powered RC cars, but in most cases these cars will come equipped with so called “glow engines”. The glow engine is actually a two cycle internal combustion engine, and it is able to provide the power and realism that is so important in the world of RC car racing.

The Fuel
The fuel you put in the nitro powered RC car is a vital element, of course, and it is important to use only the fuel recommended by the car manufacturer. These specially designed fuel mixtures are engineered to provide plenty of power, while protecting the vital engine components from overheating and other kinds of damage.

The Radio
Of course a vital element of the gas powered radio controlled car is the radio, and it is important to choose the radio carefully. Gas powered RC cars use the same two channel radio system that is used to control all RC cars. If you by an RTR (ready to run) kit, the radio should be included. If you buy a build it yourself kit you will need to supply the radio separately.

No matter which approach you choose, however, you will want to keep some extra batteries and an AC charger on hand. Having a couple of extra battery packs ready to go will enable you to run your RC car for longer periods of time without interruption.

RTR vs. Kit
There are two different types of gas powered RC cars – kits and RTR (ready to run). If you by an RTR, you will most likely be able to open the box and have the RC car or truck out on the track in a matter of minutes.

Many RC enthusiasts, however, enjoy the challenge of building their own kit, and building your own site can be a lot of fun. It may be a good idea to gain some experience by using an RTR RC car for awhile before building your own, but building your own RC car kit can provide a great feeling of accomplishment.
