Tips for Choosing Between Electric and Nitro Powered RC Cars
The various types of RC cars and trucks
There are a number of different kinds of RC cars and trucks on the market, and it is possible to find an RC car or truck in virtually every type of body style. For instance, if you have always wanted a Ferrari, you can own a great 1/8 or 1/10 scale radio controlled Ferrari for a mere fraction of what the real thing would cost.
One of the first choices any new radio controlled vehicle enthusiast must make is whether to buy an electric or a nitro powered radio controlled car or truck. There are a number of advantages and disadvantages to each approach, and it is important to choose carefully.
The Price
One distinction between electric and nitro powered radio controlled vehicles is the price. While there are a number of exceptions, in general terms the electric powered radio controlled vehicles will be less expensive to buy than the more powerful nitro radio controlled vehicles.
In addition, the nitro powered vehicles will in most cases be more difficult and complicated to maintain, and their parts will generally be more costly as well. For this reason, many newcomers to the sport of RC racing will begin with an electric RC car or truck, then move on to a more expensive nitro powered RC vehicle after they have gained some experience.
The Speed
Perhaps the biggest advantage nitro powered RC cars and trucks have over their electric powered competition is their top speed. While many electric powered RC cars and trucks are quite fast in their own right, they are no match for the blazing speeds that can be achieved by the best nitro powered RC cars. In fact, some of the best nitro powered RC cars on the market are capable of reaching speeds of 70 mph or even more, making them the perfect choice for those with a need for speed.
